Baseball Caps

While the exact origins of baseball are unknown, most historians agree that it is based on the English game of rounders. A Google search suggests that the first recorded baseball contest took place in 1846 and the first baseball team, the Knickerbockers, wore straw hats. Over the next 20 years or so the teams wore many different styles of caps including jockey caps but in 1860, the Brooklyn Excelsiors wore a cap that's a forerunner of today's 5 and 6 panel baseball caps with large visors. As for wearing baseball caps backwards: Catchers wore their caps backward so the visor didn't interfere with their protective mask. If the United States has a national hat it is probably the baseball cap.
Baseball caps are more usually associated with hot, sunny weather but even in the winter they are invaluable for drivers and certainly take the strain out of driving into that low, full on sunlight. Corporate events and training days often require some distinctive method of marking out the delegates and a baseball cap is a very acceptable way of doing this. Many Primary Schools are currently embarking on Thinking Skills courses and need hats for children in these 6 basic colours, red, black, white, yellow, green and blue. We have a children’s size cotton twill baseball caps on our website which is very inexpensive, samples can be supplied on request, just email us at
