In our house on Sunday evening we watch the Antiques Road Show; it is almost a ritual for us and marks the end of the weekend. Of all the items that are presented for interrogation, for many reasons, I am always most interested in the ceramics and I have often wondered if, in future times, a piece with an advertising slogan will bring gasps of amazement at the price it could fetch at auction. I noticed in today’s edition of The Times that a Clarice Cliff charger bought for £1 at a car boot sale brought £192.000 at Sotheby’s just recently!
